Sustainability — Indonesia Private Tour Curators’s Environmental & Community Commitments

Our Commitment to Sustainability and Community Impact

Indonesia is a land of breathtaking natural beauty and rich cultural diversity. From the coral gardens of Raja Ampat to the ancient forests of Borneo, its ecosystems are both magnificent and fragile. At Indonesia Private Tour Curators, we believe that luxury travel carries a profound responsibility to protect these natural treasures and to uplift the communities that call them home. Sustainability is not an add-on to our business; it is woven into the very fabric of our operations, guided by our Sustainability & Conservation Lead and our core company values.

Our Environmental Pledge: Preserve & Protect

We are committed to minimizing our environmental footprint and actively contributing to the conservation of Indonesia’s biodiversity.

  • Carbon Responsibility: We acknowledge the carbon impact of travel. We partner with the Rimba Raya Biodiversity Reserve in Borneo, a world-leading REDD+ project, to offer our clients a verified and impactful way to offset the carbon footprint of their flights and ground travel. We are working towards making carbon offsetting a standard inclusion in all our tour packages.
  • Eliminating Single-Use Plastics: We have a strict zero single-use plastic bottle policy on all our tours. We provide clients with reusable water bottles and ensure all our vehicles and vessels are equipped with filtered water dispensers. We work with our hotel partners to encourage and prioritize plastic-free practices.
  • Marine Conservation Partnerships: We actively support the Coral Triangle Center in Bali and the Komodo Survival Program. A portion of our profits from tours in these regions is donated to these organizations. Our guides are trained in and enforce responsible marine interaction protocols, such as maintaining safe distances from wildlife and using reef-safe sunscreen.
  • Responsible Sourcing: We prioritize partners who share our environmental commitment. Our vetting process includes a thorough audit of a partner’s waste management, water conservation, and energy efficiency policies.

Our Community Commitment: Empower & Uplift

Our goal is to ensure that tourism is a positive force for local communities, providing sustainable livelihoods and preserving cultural heritage.

  • Local Employment & Fair Wages: We are committed to hiring locally. Over 85% of our guides, drivers, and field staff are from the regions in which they work. We ensure all our staff and the staff of our primary contractors receive fair wages that are above the regional minimum, along with health insurance and social security (BPJS).
  • Supporting Local Enterprises: We prioritize sourcing from local businesses wherever possible. This means using family-owned restaurants for culinary experiences, purchasing supplies from local markets, and partnering with community-based tourism cooperatives for activities like village tours or trekking.
  • Cultural Heritage Preservation: We support artisans and cultural practitioners directly. For example, in Sumba, we facilitate visits to the weaving cooperative of Pau village, ensuring that the weavers receive 100% of the proceeds from any textiles sold, without a middleman. This provides a vital economic incentive for them to continue their ancestral craft of Tenun Ikat.
  • Community Development Projects: As part of the Juara Holding Group, we are launching a community fund focused on education and sanitation. Our first project is a partnership with a local NGO in a village near Labuan Bajo, Flores, to build a new waste management facility and provide environmental education at the local elementary school.

We believe that conscious travel enriches both the visitor and the host. By choosing one of our private tours, you are not just embarking on a journey of a lifetime; you are also becoming a partner in our mission to protect and preserve the extraordinary natural and cultural heritage of Indonesia for generations to come.
